STC Trip of November 2011

The Spain Tech Center (STC) just finished it’s second trip in collaboration with StepOne. On this trip, eighteen entrepreneurs from Spain gained first-hand insight into the unique business ecosystems present in Silicon Valley and Las Vegas.
The trip began in Las Vegas (Nevada) where the participants were presented with strategies and advice on raising capital in today’s difficult economic environment. The participants then paid an exciting visit to the headquarters of Zappos, the world’s largest online shoe retailer. There they witnessed Zappos unique work environment and strong corporate culture that emphasizes service.
The group then embarked to San Francisco where they held talks at the Spain Tech Center (STC) located within Rocketspace. Here they received a briefing on new movements in Silicon Valley and heard about other companies and their experiences working at the STC in San Francisco. Later in the day the group was given an informal legal session from Orrick law firm, to go over key points when moving a company into the United States. The day finished with each participant working on perfecting their pitches and getting professional feedback.
The next day the group headed into the Valley, the first stop was Stanford University. Here they received a tour of the vibrant campus which is the alma matter of some of the most prominent Silicon Valley tech companies and entrepreneurs. The group then headed to Mountain View to see Google’s headquarters. Here they held a talk about detailing Google’s culture and innovation. The last visit of the day was to Oracle, the world’s leading enterprise software companies. Later in the night the group attended the America’s Cup + Tech event.
The last day of the trip the group paid a visit to TCHO an innovative chocolate start-up company which integrates high technology into the food industry. The trip closed with the Spain Tech Center Launch Party where participants were able to meet and network with many vibrant entrepreneurs from the Bay area.
