EOI Trip November 2011

The Escuela de Organización Industrial (EOI) wrapped up a trip to Silicon Valley this month with a group of it’s Executive MBAs and Executive Online MBAs in collaboration with StepOne. Throughout the week the group held a variety of workshops with leading Silicon Valley professionals on the topics of integrated marketing, pitching and networking. They also paid visits to key companies who are shaping the business climate in the Valley.
The trip began with a series of talks and workshops. The first was an introductory briefing on the tendencies in Silicon Valley followed by a lecture on integrated marketing communications as seen with Apple’s ipad. Later in the day the EOI group held workshops with Catapult Design, where they practiced product design concepts.
The next day, the group headed off to Stanford University where they went on a tour of the campus and the (d.school) Stanford’s Institute of Design. They then made their way over to Google’s HQ in Mountain View. At Google the group had a insider’s session about Google’s culture and innovation.
Later in the week the group held an entrepreneurship experience simulation, in which they worked on teams to rapidly develop a business concept to test in the market of downtown San Francisco. They also spoke with two Spain Tech Center (STC) members, on the Spanish entrepreneur experience in San Francisco. The group also gained exposure to some co-working spaces which are typical of the city, including PariSoma, RocketSpace and the Hub.
Next was a visit to THCO a local chocolate company, that integrates new technologies into the purest chocolate flavor selections from around the world. In the afternoon, the group went to IDEO, where they received an inside look at the company’s unique work-style and approach to innovation.
The trip ended with an impressive visit to HP in Cuppertino. Here they learned about HP’s history in shaping Silicon Valley’s beginnings and how the company has transformed into the present day. Here the group went on a tour of HP’s Smart Home, which showcases all of the current HP technologies, available on the market which one can integrate into their home. Overall the EOI group’s trip packed with eye-opening sessions and visits helped bring the Executive MBAs closer to the realities of the entrepreneurial climate business practices present in Silicon Valley.
